Can i install sql server 2000 on windows 7

A database server from Microsoft. It was available as a standalone product and also as a part of Microsoft BackOffice Server. Available releases. Access, configure, manage, administer, and develop all components of SQL Server. I have SQL server dev edition. But it isn't compatible with my new win7 pro 64 bit computer. But I wont be able to restore the database back to the server after making any changes in The free version of sql server is called 'MSDE'.

I haven't tried it, but I don't think it works with windows 7. If it does work with Windows 7, you'll have to make sure you run the installer as administrator, and remember that being logged in to the administrator account isn't enough to ensure that happens anymore.

Otherwise, you'll have to update to at least sql server Both sql server and sql server have express editions with licenses that do permit production use if that's any help. I understand the memory limitations, etc, but that doesn't matter at this point. Improve this question. Peter Tirrell Peter Tirrell 1 1 gold badge 1 1 silver badge 6 6 bronze badges.

You might want to mention that you've looked at the documentation, asked around, etc, etc. Are you concerned about particular aspects of the installation, etc? Have you tried it, and had a particular failure in the past? Add a comment. Active Oldest Votes.

I hope this helps you. Improve this answer. I've installed on Windows 7 with no problem whatsoever. By "outright rejected" I think you meant you get a warning that it isn't supported. It certainly will install when you move past that warning. No I actually meant it rejected it - however, our OS builds are complex so it could have been something to do with that. The real answer is this - sql requires Windows Authentication and Microsoft has decided to change this or do away with it.

Not to worry though - SQL allows you to log in without windows authentication. Install the program and do not select windows authentication to log in. Use a user name and password - works great on Vista - should work the same on Win 7. I have the same problem I could successfully install evaluation edition of SQL server on Windows 7 and it works properly.
