Vista usb hangs

I eventually even ditched Win 7 and installed Vista Ultimate x64 from scratch, installed everything on Windows Update, installed the latest drivers for all of my hardware, and didn't install any other software at all.

Nothing helped. This same PC, with all the same hardware and without any new software being installed other than updates, was running fine without this problem since Win 7 RC first came out, and prior to that was running Vista Ultimate x64 just fine for well over a year - then a couple of months ago I suddenly started seeing this problem.

I've read through tons of threads on mouse freezes on Vista, both on here and other places, and I've seen these symptoms described over and over, but nobody seems to have a real solution. There's nothing in the event log, I can't seem to identify any consistent trigger for the problem, I can't seem to catch anything suspicious in Task Manager when it happens I don't know what else to try.

Is my motherboard flaking out all of a sudden? Did some update mess something up? Is so, it should be ignored. Truecrypt is not to be blamed for the freezing problem. I had the problem before I started using truecrypt. I guess I need to contact someone who repairs computers and see if they have equipment to check the usb voltage.

Since it seemed ok in safe mode, this has to be a vista issue?

I have tried that and it works some of the time. I do get ones that freezes up half way through still though. If your PC did not come with a Windows installation disc or if you no longer have your Windows setup media, you can use Easy Recovery Essentials for Windows instead.
