To add all task, resource, or assignment fields of the destination file to the import map, choose Add All. To change the order of the fields in the destination file, select a field in the To column, and then use the Move buttons to move the field to the position that you want. Tip: You can save a new or edited import map if you want to use it again. You can use an existing import map from another project if the map is available in the global file.
By using the Organizer, you can copy an import map from a project file to the global file. When you create an import map to incorporate data from either CSV file format or TXT file format and you set the text delimiter, the delimiter, not the file extension, controls the file type. For example, if you import a file named Myproject. Although you can enter values in some calculated fields, Project may recalculate these values, either automatically or when you specify. If you are using Microsoft Project Professional, and you want to import information from another file format into an enterprise project that requires you to enter specific information for tasks, you won't be able to save the project until you enter all required information.
If you are using Microsoft Project Professional, remember that resource cost fields cannot be updated in an enterprise project. You can import resource cost information only in nonenterprise projects or for nonenterprise resources in a project. Notes: You can export only an entire project to XML format. The steps in Procedure 1 applies to Project Professional. If you are working with Project Professional in a stand-alone environment, you will not be presented with the Save to Project Server dialog box Figure 1 or the Save As File dialog box Figure 2.
You will see only the Save As dialog box. In the Save As File dialog box, you can save the file with only the currently loaded enterprise items, or with all enterprise items. Selecting the option to save only the currently loaded enterprise items can result in a smaller file depending on the configuration of your project.
In the Save As dialog box, browse to the location where you want to save the file. Project Standard ignores XML data that applies only to enterprise projects. After you open a Project XML file, it behaves as any other project. You can also open a Project XML file by browsing to the file by using a Windows Explorer window, right-clicking the file, and then selecting Microsoft Office Project on the Open with menu. In the Open dialog box Figure 3 , select an option in the Look in: pane that is displayed on the left of the Open dialog box for example, My Documents , and browse to the location of the XML file you want to open.
You must manually select XML Format. Figure 3 shows the Open dialog box in Project Professional. If you try to open the XML file in Project, you get the error, "An unexpected problem occurred while opening the file. The file may be damaged. However, because Project does not correctly read the modified working times from the XML file, we recommend that you do not use Project XML files to save work week data until the errors are fixed in a later service pack.
